An afternoon of gospel singing is planned in Ada park on Saturday, Aug. 29. The program is free and open to the public and begins at 3 p.m.

Scheduled to sing are Arnold Coy, Randy Long, Chris Baldwin and Jacob Reel.
Masks are required and bring your own lawn chairs.

Senior Jacob Morgan earned co-match medalist honors

KENTON - The Ada golf team defeated county foe Ridgemont in a dual match at the Kenton Memorial Park Golf Course Thursday evening to record their first victory of 2020.

The Bulldogs easily out-shot the Gophers by a 218-246 score.

The non-conference win improved the Ada season record to 1-12.

Bulldog senior Jacob Morgan earned co-match medalist honors along with Ridgemont's Collin Wallace. Each carded a nine-hole score of 49.  

Junior Kamron Wilkerson shot a 52 to support Morgan. Classmate Andrew Rush registered a score of 55. Jack Baumgartner carded a round of 62 to round out the Bulldog scorers.

Showing "Unhinged" featuring Russell Crowe

Ada Theatre, 215 S. Main St., reopens on Friday evening for the first time since this spring.

Showing the movie “Unhinged” staring Russell Crowe, the movie is rated R. Show times are 7 and 9:15 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 7 p.m. Monday and Thursday.

The movie runs through Sept. 2. Tenet will be featured on Sept. 3.

Ann Marie McDowell, 65, died on Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2020, at her residence in McGuffey, Ohio.

She was born on Feb. 21, 1955, in Greenville, South Carolina, to Eugene and Evelyn (Ready) Kalutz. Her father preceded her in death and her mother survives in Camden, South Carolina. On July 4, 1973, Ann married Paul McDowell and he survives in McGuffey, Ohio.

Born in Lima, lived in Columbus Grove, moved to Ada following marriage

Long-time Ada resident, Alice Bucher, now living at Vancrest of Ada, celebrated her 104th birthday on Aug. 14.

Mrs. Bucher was an employee at Triplett Corp., Bluffton, for 22 years, and may be the oldest living Triplett retiree.

She and her husband, Dale, had three children, two boys and one girl. Dale  was the Ada scoutmaster for many years and he also served on several community boards and organizations in Ada. He died in 1999.

Today, Mrs. Bucher has 10 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

The following is a letter to Ada students and parents from Dan Lee, Ada High School middle and high school principal.

We are excited to begin the 2020-2021 school year this Monday, Aug. 24.

We would like to thank our families for their patience and flexibility and our teachers and staff for all their preparation and hard work. Although we face additional challenges this school year, we are committed to providing high quality education and opportunities for all our students.

Soccer and football can proceed with games against other schools

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced hat he will sign a new Ohio Department of Health order that permits contact sports, including the fall sports of field hockey, soccer and football, to move forward with games against other schools. The Governor confirmed support for Ohio’s coaches to inspire their student-athletes to continue following safety precautions so that all sports can be played.

This Alanis Morissette album is a masterpiece, beautiful and surprising

Such Pretty Forks in the Road is the ninth studio album by Canadian-American singer, songwriter, and actress Alanis Morissette. It is Morissette’s first studio album in eight years. Morissette had been working on the album since at least mid-2017. But it was worth the wait.

Morissette was scheduled to embark on a world tour for the 25th anniversary of her 1995 album Jagged Little Pill in 2020, during which she would perform songs from her entire career, including songs from Such Pretty Forks in the Road. 

The United Way of Hardin County held irs first Radio Day Auction Aug. 15. The auction was streamed online and also on 95.3 WKTN.

The goal was to raise $10,000 for the United Way of Hardin County. Prizes in value of over $8,600 were donated for the auction. A final total of auction bids and cash donations show that $10,044 were raised for the United Way.
