October 2020

From the Ohio Department of Health

The Ohio Department of Health offers caution during tonight’s local public trick-or-treating.

General guidance
Consider the people in your household who may be at greater risk of complications if COVID-19 is brought into the home, such as those with certain health conditions, women who are pregnant, or older family members.

For parents
• If taking your children trick-or-treating, limit the number of houses you visit and ask your children to stay as far from treat-givers as possible. For small children, consider holding the bag for them.

“I was working in the lab late one night when my eyes beheld an eerie sight... ”
- From Monster Mash by Bobby "Boris" Pickett

- Many more scary photos at the bottom of this story -

The Icon was working in the lab late last night and discovered a trove of Halloween photos many might like to forget. These are from the 2014 and 2015 Ada Kiwanis Halloween parade and judging.

We thought since there was no parade this year - why not revisit five and six years ago. And, by the way, my how youngsters have changed! - except for Don Traxler.

Other than Don, we've not named anyone. You can figure out who you are viewing for yourself.

Covid-19 quarantine, injuries sideline several Ada players

By Cort Reynolds
NEW BREMEN - The short-handed Ada volleyball team had its season come to an end with a sweep at the hands of state power New Bremen in Div. IV district semifinal action Tuesday night.

The Lady Bulldogs lost 25-10, 25-13, 25-12 to finish their season with a 10-12 record.

Ada battled defending state champion NB without all-around senior standout Miranda Wills, who was injured last weekend.

Another Bulldog starter and a junior varsity player were not on the active Ada roster before the match due to safety precautions from contract tracing and potential Covid-19 exposure.

Ada north and south precincts vote at Ada schools; Liberty precinct votes at Center on Central

The Icon corrects an error in an earlier story that listed area polling locations.

The correct voting locations follow:
Ada north and south precinct - at Ada school 1986 gym
Liberty precinct - at Center on Central, downtown Ada

In August it was announced by the board of elections that Ada north and south polling location would move from Community Health Professionals to 1986 Ada school gym.

The move for Ada village voters, according to the board, is due to a state directive: "It has been determined that polling locations are not to be located in a health facility of any sort.”

Bulldogs were slated to play Bluffton in a Division III district semi-final tournament game

The covid-19 quarantine bug put a disappointing end to Ada High School’s boys’ soccer season this week.

Ada was scheduled to play Bluffton tonight (Oct. 28) in Tiffin at the Division III district semi-finals. Eric Perkins, Ada HS athletic director, told the Icon that the game was cancelled. Ada had to quarantine a few players and forfeited the game.

A message to the Ada community posted on the school website on Tuesday stated: "We were notified today that a second student in the high school tested positive for covid-19. Contact tracing has been completed and all families of students who need to quarantine have been notified."

So, you think you know Ada? This window is on Presser Hall on the Ohio Northern University camps.

Did you know there are more independent voters here than those listing a party designation?
