Forestry Field Day invitation for October 16

The Hardin Soil and Water Conservation District invites you and your family to join them from 1:00-4:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 16 for Forestry Field Day at Russ Curtis & Rushcreek Sportsmen Club, 17950 Co Rd 85, Belle Center.

Bring your family and enjoy a fun filled day including horse drawn wagon rides, ham and bean soup, corn bread, hot dogs, smores and cider.

A rain date has been set for Sunday, October 23, 2022.

Summary of October 4 Ada Council Meeting

CORRECTION: Council members abstaining from the Grandview Blvd. assessment motion has been corrected to show that Linda Mason abstained; Sheila Coressel voted in support.

Ada council member Beck hired as United Way executive director

The United Way of Hardin County Board of Directors has announced that Ada resident and council member Sean Beck is the agency's new executive director.

Beck previously worked as the emergency response coordinator for the Kenton-Hardin Health Department.

The announcement noted, "Sean brings several years of customer driven results, event coordination and program enhancement experience to this position. Sean is passionate about serving the community and leaving a lasting impact on improving the county. The Board of Directors is excited for this new chapter of restructuring and advancement of the United Way of Hardin County."

ONU softball to open 2023 season with Florida trip

The Ohio Northern softball team has announced its 2023 schedule under seventh-year head coach Jackie Price.

The Polar Bears will get their 56th season underway March 11-19 with their annual Spring Break trip to Florida. The 10-to-12 game Spring Break schedule will be announced in February.

ONU will open its northern schedule on March 24-29 with home double headers with Calvin (Mich.) on March 24, Trine (Ind.) on March 25 and Alma (Mich.) on March 29.

Ohio Northern will open its Ohio Athletic Conference schedule with two games at Marietta on April 1.

AHS volleyball loss to Crestview; Knights clinch share of NWC title

Playing at home, the Ada High School volleyball team lost in straight sets to tall and athletic league leader Crestview in a Northwest Conference match Tuesday night, October 4.

The 25-7, 25-13, 25-9 loss dropped the Lady Bulldog record to 10-10 overall and 1-6 in the NWC. 

The dominating Knight girls squad clinched at least a share of the NWC title with the win. They improved to 12-6 and 7-0 in the NWC to stay in sole possession of first place with one league match remaining.

October 8 bird count at The Quarry Farm

PANDORA—October 8 is October Big Day, the first day of the international effort known as Global Bird Weekend. (There is also a May Big Day.)

Want to participate? You can join birders Deb Weston and David Smith at 9:00 a.m. at The Quarry Farm Nature Preserve & Conservation Farm. Hike to record the species that you see in the nature preserve.

The complete list will be submitted to ebird.org to join the global team and help set a new record for birding. Admission is free but donations are appreciated.
