Findlay Youtheatre auditions for Madagascar Jr.

Marathon Center for the Performing Arts is holding auditions for Youtheatre’s upcoming production of Madagascar Jr. Auditions are open to students in grades 3-5 including an on-stage cast of no more than 40 students in addition to positions on the production’s technical crew.

Auditions for the on-stage cast will begin promptly at 6 p.m. Monday, January 17 and Tuesday, January 18 at Marathon Center for the Performing Arts, 200 W. Main Cross Street in Findlay. Check-in will begin at 5:45 p.m.

Dr. Michael Craig Cox Endowed Fund for Careers established at ONU

Ohio Northern University announced that it has received a $1 million gift commitment from 2000 alumnus Dr. Michael Craig Cox, PharmD, MHSc, BCOP.

A cancer researcher and small molecule tyrosine kinase inhibitor developer, Cox has made the gift to support students, faculty, research initiatives, and science-related programming. The Dr. Michael Craig Cox Endowed Fund for Careers in the Sciences will represent the first alumni-established fund of its kind at ONU.

Janet A. Brown worked at Shawnee Manor

Janet A. Brown, age 68, passed away on Sunday, January 2, 2022, at 3:43 PM at Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima. 

She was born on December 24, 1953, in Lima, Ohio to the late Frank Perkins and Norma Jean (Smith) Layne.   She was raised by her grandparents the late, Fred and Amanda Jane Perkins her entire life.

Janet was a certified nurse’s assistant at Shawnee Manor, Lima.  She attended the Independent Baptist Church, Cridersville. Janet’s passion was spending time with her family and grandchildren.  She loved her family dearly.  She was a loving and protecting mother, and a dear friend to many.  

COVID testing and booster guidance

Blanchard Valley Health System, including Bluffton Hospital, has issued the following COVID testing and vaccine guidance with the goal of keeping patients and associates safe.

It answers the questions 1) When is it best to test? and 2) Why are booster shots important?

Youth soccer registration through Jan. 31

Ada youth soccer registration is open through January 31. Organizers have provided the following reminders:

- If your child played this past fall season, you can log into the account you set up and just renew them for the spring season.

- If your child will be playing U6 soccer, please select the t-shirt option and size. 

- Due to the jersey style being discontinued for U8 and up, teams are changing jerseys. Players are not required to purchase the new style.

- U6 soccer is open to players 4 years old at the time of registration.

Ada chamber elects new board members

The Ada Area Chamber of Commerce elected new Board of Directors members at its December 2021 meeting and announced that it has reached its goal of attracting more than 100 members.
