Tennis season ends at Lima

Tough draw for third-seeded Ada

LIMA - The Ada tennis team competed hard at the Div. II sectional tournament hosted by UNOH Thursday.

No Bulldogs advanced to the second day of semifinal competition Saturday despite a good run by the top doubles tandem.

After doing very well in singles competition all season, senior Miranda Wills and junior southpaw Dexter Woods III combined forces to play in the 23-team doubles tournament. 

Seeded third, the Bulldog pairing received a first round bye into the round of 16. In their first match, the Ada duo defeated Hayden Bader and Ali Braglia of LCC 6-4, 6-2 to advance to the quarterfinals.

Ada travels to Spencerville tonight in NWC contest

HAVILAND - The visiting Ada softball team fell behind early and lost 11-1 to Wayne Trace in Div. IV sectional final action Thursday evening.

The Raider girls jumped out to an 8-0 lead and were never headed.

Ada dropped to 12-12 with the tournament loss, while hard-hitting WT improved to 15-9 with the win. The Lady Raiders advance to the district semifinals at Elida.

WT tallied two runs in the first inning and never trailed. Raider Ava Zartman scored on a wild pitch, and a sacrifice fly by Tatum gave the Raiders a 2-0 lead.

Grain bin rescue training

Fire department members from Ada-Liberty Township and Alger participated in an all-day grain bin rescue training seminar on Saturday led by the Ohio Fire Academy. In this photo Shawn Baughman of the Ada department stands in place of someone being rescued.  Instructors from the OFA explain the procedures involved in a rescue.

Athletic Boosters reverse raffle Saturday

The 2021 Ada Athletic Boosters reverse raffle will be held virtually begining at 7 p.m., Saturday, May 15, according to Ken Jochims, Ada athletic director.

Those wishing to watch the livestream may do so on the Ada Athletic Boosters Facebook page.

Governor announces vaccine incentives

And, end date for health orders

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine on Wednesday announced a series of statewide drawings to provide incentives to Ohioans to get a COVID-19 vaccination.

With wide access to the life-saving vaccine to help Ohioans safe, Governor DeWine also announced that most COVID-19 health orders would be removed on June 2nd. DeWine made the announcements during a statewide address to Ohioans Wednesday evening.

“For a year, Ohioans have made sacrifices to save lives and keep our state moving forward.  What you have done has really worked," he said. 

"And now, we have a powerful weapon that is almost 100 percent effective in beating the virus.

School board and park board discuss new lease agreement with the park

Ada school board discussed a new lease agreement with the Ada park board during its May 12 special board meeting, according to Meri Skilliter, Ada school superintendent.

The current lease agreement is expiring. The meeting was in open session and lasted about 40 minutes.
