In the 5th century B.C., the “Father of Medicine” Hippocrates referred to a disease known as the “arthritis of the rich.” He noted that a life of luxury, including idleness and heavy drinking and eating, resulted in this condition that today we know as gout. In the 16th-18th centuries, gout was known as the “disease of kings.” Monarchs such as Henry VIII were known to have gout as a result of his rich diet and this was culturally glorified to show your wealth. In the United States, Benjamin Franklin is known to have a history with gout.

MEDIA RELEASE__The Hardin Soil and Water Conservation District is hosting a Forestry Field Day at the Rushcreek Sportsmen's Club on Sunday, October 18 from 1-4:00 p.m.:

“Come join us for some fall-filled, forestry fun! Food will be provided along with activities for the kids that include sack races, horse-drawn-wagon rides and a scavenger hunt.

“You can also purchase raffle tickets to win door prizes! Proceeds will support our scholarship fund. Steve McGinnis, area forester, will be speaking about all things forestry as we explore the woodlands of Rushcreek Sportsmen’s Club.”

Zachariah R. Wauben, age 53, of Lima, passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at Vancrest of Ada with family by his side.

Zachariah was born on March 21, 1973, in Lima, Ohio, to Rodger Keith and Cheryl Lynn (Heiges) Wauben. His father, Rodger, survives in Cridersville, and his mother, Cheryl, preceded him in death.

Also surviving is his son, Luke (Skylar Revuelta) Groch of Lima; two brothers: Jeramiah (Angela) Wauben and Joseph Wauben; a sister, Beth  (Greg) Santilli; and several nieces and nephews.

FROM FACEBOOK__The Ada High School swim team will hold a pre-season meeting on October 20, with Poco Loco available at 6:00 p.m. for suit try-ons and the meeting beginning at 6:30 p.m.

All interested students and their parents are invited to attend. Competitive swim experience is not necessary.
