Ada Quizzers finish 4th, Elita Smith captures quote-off
Ada First Presbyterian’s Bible Quizzers captured 4th place in national competition at Bethel College July 5-7 and Ada’s Elita Smith won the “quote-off,” an event for individuals.
A second Ada quizzer, Jeremiah Smith, came in second in the one-on-one, another competition for individuals.
The quote-off is similar to a spelling bee, according to Ada quizzer Noah Allen, except the participants must recite a Bible verse or verses verbatim rather than spell a word correctly.
Four Ada quizzers – Will Allen, Carissa Miglin, and Elita and Jeremiah Smith – were named to the East Central District’s All-Star team.
Evergreen Missionary Church, from Lowell, Michigan, finished first, competing against 12 other teams including Ada First Presbyterian.
Jeremiah Smith stated that the competition was the best he’d seen. “The double elimination tournament was basically a toss-up between six teams,” Smith said.
Ada’s quizzers will study Matthew’s gospel next year.
