Kiwanis members updated on Ada events

Harold Friesner called the 37th meeting (July 17th) of the 2011–2012 Ada Kiwanis year to order at 12:06 p.m. at McIntosh Center, Ohio Northern University,

The Invocation was given by Jon Umphress.

The birthday of Harold Friesner (July 21st) was noted in song.

Jon Umphress also reported that he had his first ride in the sidecar of a motorcycle driven by Rev. Vern LaSala.

In business:
-Members heard an updated financial report from Treasurer Bryan Marshall.

-Secretary t (Brian Myers) reported that Dianne Ricks (419-772-3145) from the ONU Multicultural Office called Ada Kiwanis because they are going to hold an Ada Civic Engagement Day on August 21. They are looking for community service projects that college students could complete. They need project ideas before August 1.

-The F&M Picnic will be held on Saturday August 11th. The club will assist with the pedal tractor pull. Joe Ferguson will have a signup next week.

-The Ohio District Kiwanis Convention is set for August 10th thru 12th in Boardman. A silent auction basket as a fundraiser for the Ohio Kiwanis Foundation will be held at the convention. The club will support the project

-Bryan Marshall reported that this Saturday there will be a musical performance at the Ada High School to support the Ada First United Methodist Church.

-It was reported that the Ada Lions club is looking to do some cleanup work and are perhaps looking for volunteers.

-The club discussed its participation the Harvest and Herb Festival.

-Kiwanis Education Minute: The sixth Object of Kiwanis International is “To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism which make possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism, and goodwill.”

-Something to consider: Ed Howe said:  There is only one thing for a man to do who is married to a woman who enjoys spending money, and that is to enjoy earning it.           - -
