Road to Recovery drivers' meeting Aug. 16
One of the toughest challenges a cancer patient may face is getting to and from treatment. Patients may be too sick to drive themselves, may not have a car or someone to drive them, or simply cannot afford gasoline. The American Cancer Society is working to bridge this barrier.
Road to Recovery is a new program to Hancock County and the surrounding area. Through this project, volunteers are trained to provide patients with free rides to treatment centers.
The American Cancer Society is recruiting interested drivers. Volunteers must have a good driving record, pass a background check, own a reliable vehicle and attend a short, one-hour driver training. This is not a paid position.
Volunteer drivers are able to set their own schedules. A typical commitment is just a couple of hours per month. Drivers also determine how far they are willing to drive, whether keeping to the local area or making longer trips.
A Road to Recovery driver training is set for Thursday, Aug. 16, at 1 p.m. at Blanchard Valley Hospital, in Findlay. Registration is requested by calling 888.227.6446 x5102.
