Kiwanis Club hears update on First United Methodist Church

Ada Kiwanis Club members had an update on progress on the Ada First United Methodist Church project.

It was reported that the complexity of planning for a new building includes policies from the United Methodist Church denomination, including a forming a vision committee that works with the church and the community to identify needs.

It was reported that members of the congregatyion will hold three summits over the next month that includes examining the past, where are we going, and how do we get there.

The congregation will hold pulse group meeting to get specific feedback from various groups (including groups like Kiwanis) that have used or who might use the new building. They are looking at rebuilding on three different sites.

President Harold Friesner called the 42nd meeting (August 21st) of the 2011–2012 Kiwanis Year to order at 12:03 p.m. at McIntosh Center, Ohio Northern University

Jon Umphress offers the Invocation. ONU Chaplain David McDonald was welcomed as a guest.

The birthday of Jolene Bailey (August 23th) was noted. The wedding anniversaries of Heather and Craig Cox (August 21, 1999) and Mike and Ann Hood (August 21, 1976) were noted.

-In business:
-Members heard an updated financial report.

-Secretary Brian Myers reported that a patch and thank you was received from Kiwanis International for the club’s annual donation to the International Foundation. Myers said that will contact the Kenton Kiwanis Club to find obtain more information on a donation to the Hardin Pioneers Aktion Club.

-The club agreed to support the Hardin County 4H program again.
-Myrna McCurdy has scheduled the Installation Dinner for incoming Officers for Tuesday September 25th at the Wishing Well for 7 pm until 9:30. This takes the place of the noon meeting. This will be a sit down dinner.

-Harold Friesner will make reservations for the noon meetings for the next year.

-The Harvest and Herb Festival will be held on Saturday, September 15th. The club will participate in the event. A signup list will be circulated at next week’s meeting.

-Incoming Lt. Governor Lt. Governor Linda Steinbrunner has scheduled a Get-Aquatinted visit for September 11th. She would like to meet officers prior to meeting at 11:30 a.m.-Kiwanis Governor Craig Wallace and First Lady Lee Ann will be in Bellefontaine, Ohio for a combined Division 2 and 3 meeting on October 8th.

-The Club discussed the annual spaghetti dinner. No decisions were made
-Something to consider: Anonymous: If you want your children to appreciate your ancient jokes, tell them they’re folk humor.

Marilyn Green has invited Mark Light to speak to the club. He updated the club on 3

items:

2. The 4H Extension office: They have moved locations where they get some green space and additional parking. They are making some adjustments. He reminded and thanked us for the levy support of the operation. He has two new staff in Hardin County (from AmeriCorps) to help with foreclosure issues which is associated with the family consumer science division.

3.The Hardin County Fair: New this year: Big Cat Encounter, Grandpa Cratchet Mobile Puppet Show, and Phil Dirt and Dozers. He mentioned that there is a new building (Pork Producers) for sit down dining. He also commented on the schedule and his hope for nice weather.
  

The meeting was adjourned at 12;56 a.m.
