C. Joyce Zimmerly, age 81, died on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2019, at 10:10 p.m. at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.
Joyce was born on Dec. 31, 1937, in Allen County, Ohio, to Ralph G. and Marian J. (Lyle) McElwain who preceded her in death. On Sept. 25, 1955 she married Glenn Eugene “Gene” Zimmerly and he preceded her in death on Dec. 5, 2013.
Ohio Northern University law professor Deidré Keller wrote an op-ed titled “Treatment of migrant children goes beyond rule of law,” which ran July 26 in the Columbus Dispatch.
Joined by Professor Karen Hall, she expresses concern that these children are being traumatized, which comes with a lifetime of consequences, and calls for compassionate policy change.
Sisters, Jordyn and Camryn Smith, had great success at the Ohio State Fair.
Jordyn, an Ada 6th grader and member of Troop 20314 from Ada, (Cadette), received the following awards:
• Gold Medal (for the second year) in the Public Speaking Competition
• Silver Medal in the Design Challenge Competition
• Bronze Medal in the Duct Tape Competition
• First Place Ribbon in Robotics
• Second Place Ribbon in Community Service Project
• Third Place Ribbon in Historic Sites, People, Tours Project
This isn't the famous Richard the Rooster who ocassionally haunts Ada with its presence. Instead, it's a rooster with an attitude. You'll find it in the Mercantile on Main, 117 S. Main St., Ada. Sometimes it's in the store window, other times it moves around.
The Hardin County Astronomy Club will have meteor and star gazing for the Perseid meteor shower on Saturday, Aug. 10, from 9:30 p.m. to midnight at the McGuffey village park on East South Street in McGuffey, according to David Humphreys of the club.
If cloudy or raining, the club will try again on Sunday, Aug. 11, at the same time.
There will be a couple of telescopes there for viewing the planets and other astronomical objects, and visitors are welcome to bring their own telescopes and binoculars.
