ONU women's coaching staff recognized

The Ohio Northern women's soccer coaching staff was honored by the United Soccer Coaches Association as the Great Lakes Region Staff of the Year.

The award is given to one coaching staff in each of the country's eight regions. 

This marks the second time Northern head coach Mark Batman has won the regional staff of the year honor. The coaches were also recognized following the 2017 season.

The Polar Bears went 18-3-3 in 2019, advancing to the third round of the NCAA Tournament. ONU won both the Ohio Athletic Conference regular-season crown — with a perfect 9-0-0 mark — and the tournament title. 

 

It's Ada's tallest indoor Christmas tree. You can find it in the lobby of The Freed Center on the ONU campus. In this series you'll see the tree and a window reflection of the tree.

Vancrest's annual holiday craft fair is from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 14, and vendors are being accepted, according to Jennifer Line.

The show will include a visit from Santa Claus.  Vancrest is located at 600 W. North St., Ada.

COLUMBUS GROVE - The Ada girls basketball team fell behind big early and lost 73-30 at Columbus Grove Thursday night in the Northwest Conference opener.

The defeat dropped the Ada girls to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in the NWC. CG improved to 3-1 and 1-0 in league play with the convincing win.

Grove raced to a 17-2 lead and extended it to 39-6 at intermission. The lead reached 64-18 after three periods before Ada won the final stanza, 12-9.

CG bombed in 11 three-point goals to pace their offense to its highest-scoring game of the young season.

The next PaintInn at The Inn at ONU is at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 10, or Wednesday, Dec. 11.

Participants will work under the guidance of a professional artist while you create a beautiful project while enjoying delicious food and drink.

This month's theme is create a Santa porch sitter (see picture below). 

The cost is $38 per perons. All supplies, food, a beverage and fun are included.  To plan accordingly, some PaintINN projects can take three or more hours.

Prices are subject to applicable taxes and gratuity.

Hanson-Neely Funeral Homes, Ada and Alger will hold its 16th annual remembrance service at 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 14, at its Ada chapel, 311 E. Lima Ave., according to Bruce Neely.

Persons attending may arrive anytime between 2 and 3 p.m. Upon arrival, a personalized ornament will be given to the family to place on a Christmas tree.

A short memorial service will take place at 3 p.m.  A time of sharing and light refreshments will follow.
