Dean Paul: "I thought it was a really solid performance"

The Ohio Northern football team put on an offensive showcase, featuring a plethora of big plays, its first home game of the 2019 season Saturday at Dial-Roberson Stadium.

The Polar Bears downed Otterbein 45-35 to improve to 2-2 on the season and 2-1 in Ohio Athletic Conference play. 

"I thought it was a really solid performance," ONU head coach Dean Paul said. "We knew Otterbein was going to be a good test. After a disappointing loss last week, it was important for us to have a good week of practice and come out strong against a quality team, and we did that."

Orange cones popped up in Ada in September. Here are cones on Main Street. They recently came off State Route 81. The cones are in preparation for a major street project coming in October.

Harvard University faculty member Hopi Hoekstra, Ph.D., will discuss “From Darwin to DNA: Digging for Genes that Affect Behavior” at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 2 in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts at Ohio Northern University.

The talk, which is part of the Keiser Distinguished Lecture Series in Life Sciences at ONU, is free and open to the public.

ONU senior, John Sternasty, says he doesn't know where he'd be without soccer

John Sternasty has played soccer his entire life.

From competing on his sister's U5 team as a three-year old to now where he suits up for the Polar Bears as a team captain, soccer has been a constant in Sternasty's life.

But for the Ohio Northern senior, soccer is more than just a sport in which he has excelled. It's a daily release from the rigors of college courses, a physical activity that demands the best of him and an arena that has given him lifelong friends and memories. 

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) to get ready for winter operations.

Throughout October, ODOT District 1  will hold two hiring events to fill approximately 44 winter seasonal positions available across the region.

The schedule of events is as follows:

• Wednesday, Oct. 2, from noon to 6 p.m. at the ODOT District 1 office, 1885 N. McCullough St., Lima.

• Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2-6 p.m. at the ODOT District 1 Hardin County maintenance garage, 13052 state Route 68, Kenton.

FDA warns of possible cancer-causing impurity in some ranitidine medicines

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has discovered that some medications used for acid reflux contain low levels of a possible cancer-causing impurity.

These medications are found under the names ranitidine (active ingredient) and Zantac (brand). These drugs are available over the counter and via prescription.
