3rd District Court of Appeals coming to ONU
The Ohio 3rd District Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments in two cases at Ohio Northern University’s Pettit College of Law on Tuesday, Jan. 15, at 10 a.m. in the Moot Court Room.
The oral arguments will be heard by a panel consisting of three of the court’s four judges: Richard M. Rogers, Vernon L. Preston and John R. Willamowski. The court’s fourth judge is Stephen R. Shaw. Rogers, Shaw and Willamowski are Ohio Northern University law alumni.
The court will hear one criminal case and one civil case while in Ada. The first case, State of Ohio v. Tammy M. Klein (Union County), is an appeal involving a conviction of aggravated robbery and other felony counts.
The civil case, Michael J. Conley, et.al. v. Endres Processing Ohio LLC (Wyandot County), deals with an appeal involving Ohio’s employer intentional tort statute.
At the conclusion of the cases, the appellate judges will take questions from the audience.
The appellate court’s special session at the College of Law is part of an educational outreach program to give students, educators and the public an opportunity to enhance their understanding of the appellate process. The appellate court, based in Lima, Ohio, is comprised of 17 counties and travels among them for special court sessions.
The session will be broadcast live on ONU Cable channel 3.
The event is free and open to the public; however, seating is limited.
