Ada HS Varsity Singers bring home Class C trophy from Piqua event
Ada Varsity Singers returned from competition at Piqua on Saturday with the Class C Trophy.
The Ada High School Varsity Singers lead by vocal music director, Abigail Glenn and Jonathan Lischak, director of instrumental and co-director of the Varsity Singers performed at Piqua High School’s Show Choir competition on Jan. 19.
The Varsity Singers were awarded the Class C Champions Trophy with a first place finish in their division. The Outstanding Performer Award selected by the judges for Ada Varsity Singers was senior Erica Kier.
The Varsity Singers enjoyed meeting Todrick Hall who was a guest judge and Master of Ceremonies for the finals. Hall was a season nine finalist on American Idol and performed in the Broadway show "Memphis" as a member of the cast. He told the audience that the Ada Varsity Singers were the nicest group of young people he had met for the day.
The Varsity Singers also ranked in the top six of all the show choirs regardless of division. This is the first time in four years that the show choir has placed high enough to go on to the show choir finals.
Ada competed against Lebanon HS, Poca HS, Milton-Union HS, Jonathan Alder HS, and Marion Harding HS in the finals. Each show choir performs a set of songs between 15 and 20 minutes in length and will traditionally have a minimum of two to three costume changes.
Within a song choice, vocal lines typically alternate between unison and octave singing, and two-or-more part polyphonic (harmony) singing. The Varsity Singers performed Enter the Circus with Atreyu Hunter as soloist, Bicycle Race with Kendra Paul as vocal soloist and Erica Kier as dance soloist, We Love Clowns, Send in the Clowns with Suzy Young as soloist, Karnevil 9, and Goodbye to the Circus with Josie Corwin and Slade Downing as soloists.
The Varsity Singers dance numbers are choreographed by Jonathan Lischak and Abigail Glenn and their show colors are red, yellow and black.
The 25 singer/dancers are Bri Agner, Cozy Brodeur, Kenzie Corbet, Josie Corwin, Haley Crouse, Justina Fuqua, Molly Gamble, Emily Keckler, Erica Kier, Kendra Paul, Annabel Pinkney, Ariel Rall, Courtney Rudasill, Erica Stoner, Caralee Stover, Skye Van Atta, Schyler Waugh, Suzy Young, Kelsey Zimmerly, Travis Archer, Slade Downing, Drayson Gamble, Chanler Hughart, Atreyu Huner and Cole Tabor.
