Kwiat wins, Jones third to lead no. 17 wrestling at 29-team Wheaton (Ill.) Pete Willson Invitational

Senior Kyle Kwiat won at 174 pounds and senior Jeremy Jones finished third at 133 pounds to lead the No. 17-ranked Ohio Northern wrestling team to an 11th place finish at the 29-team Wheaton (Ill.) Pete Willson Invitational Friday and Saturday.

Jones had an impressive 7-1 record, including a 3-0 record in the wrestlebacks on Saturday, to improve to 21-15 on the season.

He on a tight 2-0 decision over sixth-seeded James Bennett of Wisconsin-LaCrosse in the third place match.

Kwiat, the No. 1-ranked and top-seeded wrestler at 174 pounds, posted a 4-0 record with three tech falls on the weekend.

He topped Kevin O'Brien of Wisconsin-LaCrosse by tech fall 17-0 in 4:58 in the championship match.

Kwiat improves to 32-3 on the season and now leads the NCAA with 19 tech falls.

Junior Jerry Pasquale, sophomore J.P. Hoopes and sophomore Kyle Brezovec also won matches on Friday, but were eliminated in the double-elimination tournament.

The Polar Bears will return to action on Tuesday where they will celebrate Senior Night with a 7:30 p.m Ohio Athletic Conference dual meet with Baldwin Wallace at the ONU Sports Center.
