Ruth Ferguson, Ada business owner, was involved in many community activities
E. Ruth Ferguson, 87, died at 4:11 p.m., Feb. 11, 2013, at Lima Memorial Health System.
She was born Feb. 28, 1925, in Ada to Nate J. and Ilo Mae Wollam Stober. On Dec. 2, 1945, she married John E. Ferguson, who died Feb. 8, 1995.
Mrs. Ferguson was co-owner of Ferguson Insurance Agency, Ada, which was founded in 1956.
She had first worked at Ada Liberty Bank and Ada Elevator. She and her husband were also farmers. She was a member of Bethel Church of Christ, Ada. She was a 1943 graduate of Ada High School. She was a member of Liberty Grange 2526 for more than 60 years and a member of the American Legion Post 185 Auxiliary, Ada. She had been a correspondent for the Ada Herald for several years, taking over after her mother.
Survivors include a son, Joseph Edward (Linda) Ferguson, of Ada; a daughter-in-law, M. Lisa Ferguson, of Ada; three grandchildren, Adam (Kristen) Ferguson, Jamie (Chad) Hazelton and Laura Ferguson; eight great-grandchildren, Brice Ferguson, Riley Ferguson, Wyatt Ferguson, Hope Hazelton, Shelby Hazelton, Jillian Hazelton, Tucker Hazelton and Cash Hazelton; a sister-in-saw, Jean (Krofft) Stober of Holgate; and four nephews and two nieces.
She was preceded in death by a son, Frederick S. Ferguson, who died Aug. 2, 2005; two brothers, Earl, and infant Ralph Stober; a sister-in-law, Virginia Ferguson Stackhouse; a brother-in-law, Collins Stackhouse; and a niece.
Services will begin at 11 a.m., Thursday, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada. Pastor Harrison Underwood and Pastor Brandon Mayden will officiate. Burial will be in McElroy Cemetery, Ada.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, and until time of services Thursday at the funeral home, where a Grange memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Church of Christ; Friendly Hills Grange Camp, 16303 Village Parkway, Fredericktown, Ohio 43019; or the Ada Public Library.
