Interclass, a synonym for academic excellence, was won by the Junior Class at Ada High School on Friday night at the school auditorium.
Individual winners were Erryk Katayama, a senior, for essay; Lyric Jones, a senior, for poetry; Austin Amburgey, a junior, for short story; and Jacob Colwell, a junior, for dramatic reading.
Willis E. “Gene” Fry, 76, died on Friday, March 16, 2018 at 8:23 a.m. at Memorial Gables in Marysville.
He was born on Sept. 19, 1941, in Lima, Ohio to the late Robert L. and Jane E. (Newland) Fry. On Sept. 19, 1960, Gene married Charolette A. Austin and she survives in McGuffey.
Gene retired from General Dynamics where he worked as a welder. He was a member of the McGuffey Freewill Baptist Church. Gene was the former mayor of McGuffey and formerly served as a fireman and police officer for McGuffey. He dedicated his life to his family and was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He was loved by all who knew him.
ONU will sponsor a free football youth clinic on Sunday, April 29 at Dial-Roberson Stadium. The clinic is open to youth ages 6-13.
Athletes attending will participate in drills and activities conducted by the ONU coaching staff and players. The ONU team’s scrimmage will follow. Youth attending the clinic are encouraged to stay to watch the scrimmage and meet the coaches and players.
Registration will be held from noon until 12:30. The clinic will last an hour. The scrimmage will last two hours.
The engineering college recently honored Chris Claypool and Lee Stockton with Distinguished Alumni Awards. Claypool, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering in 1972, is past president and current CEO of Claypool Electric Inc. in Lancaster. Stockton earned a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering in 1961. He spent 43 years working for Price Brothers (now Hanson Pipe and Precast) in Dayton.
The Ohio Northern University Music department will present a faculty voice recital at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 18 in the Presser Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
The recital, titled “Love, Birds and a Meat Ball,” will feature artists Kirsten Osbun-Manley, soprano; Lance Ashmore, baritone; and Pamela Ashmore, piano. The program will include an eclectic mix of classic and contemporary songs, and other favorites from composers as diverse as Kurt Weill, Cole Porter, Stephen Flaherty, J.S. Bach and Claude Debussy.
