COLUMBUS GROVE - Host Columbus Grove clinched the outright Northwest Conference girls basketball title with a convincing 82-23 win over Ada Thursday evening in the league season finale.
Ada finished its regular season 4-17 overall and 0-8 in the NWC with the defeat. Meanwhile, Grove improved to 12-8 and 7-1 in the NWC with the victory.
Abby Gladwell led Grove with 23 points.
Bulldog senior Maddie Gossard topped Ada with nine points while classate Anney Archer added eight. Raina England added six markers.
CG also won a shortened two-quarter JV game, 24-0.
AKRON — Sophomore Lauren Halle (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton) won the 200 I.M. in school-record fashion to lead the Ohio Northern women on the first day of the 2018 Ohio Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships on Thursday at the University of Akron's Ocasek Natatorium.
Halle edged John Carroll's Gwyn Ledrick in the 200 I.M. by just .42 of a second, winning in 2:08.26. Her time broke the previous mark of
Senior Sydney Veon (Riverside, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield) earned All-OAC kudos in the 50 free, finishing third in :23.99.
AKRON — Sophomore Nolan Huey (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge) broke the school and OAC record in the 200 I.M. to lead the Ohio Northern men on the first day of the 2018 Ohio Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships on Thursday at the University of Akron's Ocasek Natatorium.
Huey touched in 1:51.10, breaking the OAC and ONU record of 1:51.63, set in 2013 by Jordan Breitigam. His time also surpasses the NCAA "B" Cut of 1:51.98.
Ohio Northern is third in the team standings with 178 points.
Ada High School's newest organization "Gatekeepers" were busy this week. The group calls themselves Ada Mental Health Alliance.
Leading up to Valentine's Day, members placed positive hearts on all high school lockers.
The Partnership for Violence Free Families (PVFF) brought this program to Ada with training and facilitation assistance. Marlene Vermillion, school nurse, the the staff advisor.
Gatekeepers is open to freshmen through seniors. Its focus is on increasing mental health awareness, reduce the stigma of talking about life problems, and suicide prevention.
Gatekeepers intend to make a positive impact at school, with peers and the Ada community.

Ada will host the 12th annual Hardin County Chamber and Businss Alliance annual awards presentation and membership dinner.
The event is from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 22, in McIntosh Center on the campus of Ohio Northern University.
The program includes a 5:30 p.m. reception, 6:30 p.m. awards program, 7:15 p.m. dinner and 7:45 p.m. business meeting.
