Ada High School has an official state champion. The AHS Winterguard team competed in the Ohio Indoor Performance Association (OIPA) state final in Wapakoneta and returned home with a state title.
The team had recently been promoted to the more difficult Scholastic A division and was performing for the first time at this level in a state championship. The team defeated three-time state champions Middletown High School to take the state championship by 0.08 points. The AHS team was also recognized for their state championship Scholastic Regional A accomplishment last year.
The Ada Winterguard performs a four-minute flag and rifle routine. The routine is choreographed by Jonathan Lischak, advisor and director of the Ada Winterguard with co-director Amy Webb.
In addition, Ada’s Ariel Rall was awarded The Outstanding OIPA Performer of the Year, which is only awarded to one performer for the entire state competition. The Ada Winterguard’s show theme this year is that “Total Eclipse of the Heart.”
Members of Ada’s State Champion Winterguard team include Josie Corwin, Ariel Rall, Erica Kier, Justina Fuqua, Caralee Stover, Libbie Milks and Gabi Rall.
The state championship team will have a public performance at 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 9, in the Ada High School gym. Everyone is welcome to come and watch the championship team.
