Kiwannis hear about Serenity Stables Therapeutic Center
President Myrna McCurdy called the weekly meeting of the Ada Kiwanis Club to order at noon on Tuesday, June 4, at McIntosh Center, ONU.
The invocation was offered by Jon Umphress.
Deb Thompson and Dereck Cornell were welcomed as guests
The membership anniversary of John Berg (June 8, 1994) was noted.
In business:
-Treasurer Bryan Marshall updated members on club finances.
-Secretary Report Brian Myers noted that that the May report has been filed and that he. Jeff Schulman Heather Cox and Bill Fuller attended Kiwanis Leadership training over the weekend.
- The next satellite club meeting is set for Wednesday June 12th, 6:00 p.m. at the Community Health Professionals building
-Sandy Neely reported on the Red Cross Swim program for July.
-The club will be planting a in memory of former member Von Spellman at War Memorial Park on Wednesday July 10th at 6 PM. There will be no meeting on Tuesday July 9th.
-Joe Ferguson reported on the Harlan’s Chicken BBQ for July 12th. Tickets were made available to the membership.
-A question was raised about contacting the school about the BUGS program.
-The club will provide the Restore meal for June 18th.
Kiwanis Education Minute:
Kiwanis members typically -volunteer each month to assist with service projects. In a typical year, Kiwanis clubs worldwide organize more than 150,000 service projects – both locally and globally-and Kiwanis members dedicate more than 12 million hours of service.

Presentation:
Claudia Crawford introduced Deb Thomson of Serenity Stables Therapeutic Center located in Forest.
She gave a presentation on their new center/program where equine therapy will be used to aid individuals with hippo therapy (physical, occupational, or speech therapy on horseback), counseling at risk youth, therapeutic riding, pet therapies, and heroes for horses program.
They currently have three horses, two of which can currently be used.They will be starting sessions this summer.
