Ada First United Methodist will have a 5 p.m., family-friendly service, with its praise band as part of the service. Then, at 11 p.m. will be the traditional Christmas eve candlelighting service. The church is located at 301 N. Main St. Rev. Brandi Rigsby is the pastor.

ADA - Host Ada finished on a 22-10 run to pull away from a close battle against backyard rival Allen East and win 55-42 in Northwest Conference boys basketball action Friday night.
Ada led the tight, hard-fought contest 33-32 late in the third quarter when AE missed a fast break layup. Bulldog junior Zac Swaney quickly buried a trifecta at the other end for a crucial five-point swing.
On the next Ada possession, Swaney drained another trey to build the lead to seven. Classmate playmaker Brandon Hull bounced in a floater just before the end of the third period to stretch the advantage to 41-32.
Mary L. Harrod, 95, died on Monday, Dec. 23, 2019, at 6:14 a.m. at The Wyngate Senior Living Community, Lima.
She was born on Dec. 25, 1923 in Painesville, Ohio, to the late William H. and Marie (Warren) Hathaway. On Sept. 8, 1944 Mary married Louis W. Harrod and he preceded her in death on May 10, 2017.
Mary was a homemaker. She was a member of the Harrod Christian Church, where she taught Sunday school and Bible school. She was a 1941 graduate of Newark High School. Mary volunteered at Memorial Hospital and at a Hospice in Ft. Wayne, Ind. She wrote poetry and songs. She enjoyed being with her grandkids and great grandkids.
ST. NIK (Richard Gainey) lived in Ada, and retired to Florida. Many youth met him at the public library and around town for several holiday seasons. His bumper sticker reads: "My other car is a sleigh."
