Kiwanis memorial tree dedication Aug. 6 in Ada park

President Myrna McCurdy called the weekly meeting of the Ada Kiwanis Club to order at noon on Tuesday July 30th in McIntosh Center, ONU.

The invocation was offered Jon Umphress.

The wedding anniversary of Peter and Jeanie Previte (8/02/1975) was noted.

Tom Kier was congratulated on being appointed Interim Dean of the Raabe College of Pharmacy at ONU.

In business:
-Members were updated on club finances.

-The Memorial Tree Dedication is set for Wednesday August 6th 6:00 p.m. at War Memorial Park. The family of Von Spellman (honoree) is planning on attending. There will be no Tuesday noon meeting.

-Joe Ferguson reported that the signs have been erected and all remaining fees have been remitted. The web site is being finished and should be complete soon.

-Mike Hood is working on a basket for the Ohio Kiwanis Convention for the Ada club. Members planning on attending include: Jon Umphress, Jeff Schulman and Brian Myers. Other members will be assisting in the Basket Room.

-Sandy Neely reported on the Swimming Lessons project. She noted that 70 swimmers participated and the weather was good. She noted that over 300 hours of total service was performed by the volunteers. She added that if the club plans to assist next year additional help will be needed.

-Preliminary details on the fall spaghetti were discussed.

-The club will participate in the Harvest and Herb festival parade.

-Kiwanis Education Minute: Kiwanis has a criminal background check for clubs who want the option of making sure members meet those standards.  International has a relationship with Safe Hiring Solutions that gives us access to a secure electronic process.  There is no paperwork, so it is easy for us to protect the children we serve along with members’ confidence and your club’s reputation.

-Something to consider: From “Live and Love and Pass it -On” from someone 42 “I’ve learned that even when you schedule a doctor’s appointment for 8am, you still have to wait an hour.” And from an 80 year old I’ve learned that a mule dressed in a tuxedo is still a mule.”

The Ada Kiwanis Club meets each Tuesday at 12:00 in McIntosh Center, ONU. Guests are always welcome. Visit the club’s web site at adakiwanis.org.
