ONU's Student Safety Week to focus on personal safety, dating and human trafficking
Ohio Northern University will begin its third annual Student Safety Week, featuring a number of activities, on Sept. 9.
Sponsored by the ONU Security Office, in partnership with the ONU Student Senate, the ONU Panhellenic Council, the ONU Interfraternity Council and the ONU Student Planning Committee, the event will touch on subjects such as personal safety, dating violence and human trafficking.
On Monday, Sept. 8, the week kicks off with two events. At noon, the Hardin County Sheriff’s Department will have a canine unit under the supervision of Deputy Joe Carl in the McIntosh Activities Room. Larry Banaszak, Otterbein’s chief of police, will lecture on “Response to Campus Shooter Program” in the McIntosh Ballroom at 7 p.m.
Debbie Norris will speak about dating violence in the McIntosh Ballroom on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m. Norris, who created the Heather’s Voice website to educate teens about dating violence and domestic abuse, lost her daughter to domestic abuse, which eventually led to her death.
A fun interactive game show, “Game Show XXX: Sex, Love and Everything in Between,” will be held in the McIntosh Ballroom on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. On Thursday, Sept. 12, the movie “Not Today” will be shown in the English Chapel at 9 p.m. The movie focuses on a young man who is exposed to the world of human trafficking.
The week will conclude with a raffle conducted by the ONU Security Office on Friday, Sept. 13, at 1 p.m. in the McIntosh lobby. Raffle tickets can be acquired by attending the events throughout the week.
All safety week activities are free and open to the public.
