Joanne Engelhardt was a teacher at USV for 23 years
H. Joanne Engelhardt, age 86, died Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at 3 p.m. at Hardin Hills Health Center, Kenton.
She was born on July 18, 1927 in Alger, Ohio to Fred Lewis and Lottie (McCluer) Ankerman, Sr. and they preceded her in death. On June 4, 1949 she married Karl B. Engelhardt and he died on December 13, 1977.
Joanne retired after working 23 years as an elementary teacher at the Upper Scioto Valley Schools. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Alger. She was a graduate of Alger High School class of 1945 and a graduate of Ohio Northern University in 1969 with a degree in Elementary Education. Joanne was a member of the former Three Arts Club of Alger, a member of the Ohio and Hardin County Retired Teachers Association and a member of the Royal Neighbors of America. She was a member of the former Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #6 of Ada. Joanne was a founding member of the Alger Rescue Squad EMT.
Surviving are three sons: Kurt (Debbie) Engelhardt of Alger, OH, Fred (Paula) Engelhardt of Marietta, OH, Charles (Paula) Engelhardt of Uniontown, OH; a daughter, Claire Ann Harter of Ada, OH; a foster son, Robert (Barbara) Cline of Harrod; a daughter-in-law, Charlaine Engelhardt of Stow, OH; ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren, three foster grandchildren and six foster great-grandchildren; a sister, Eleanor Kritzler of Houston, TX.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Karl Brian Engelhardt and Donald Engelhardt; a brother, Fred Lewis Ankerman, Jr.; a sister, Jeanette Mengering.
A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 6, at First United Methodist Church of Alger with Pastor Casey Ann Irwin and Rev. Calvin Waugh officiating.
Burial will be in Preston Cemetery, Alger.
Friends may call 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 5, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Alger and/or Hardin County Hospice of Kenton and/or Community Health Professionals-Hospice Ada.
