Ada Kiwanis Club prepares for several October events

President Heather Cox called the weekly meeting of the Ada Kiwanis Club to order at 12:00 noon on Tuesday October 8th at the New China Restaurant, downtown Ada.
Laura Ferguson and Carol Friesner were welcomed as guests.

The birthday of Brian Myers (October 9th) was noted in song.

In business:
-Treasurer Bryan Marshall updated members on club finances.
-The satellite club reported that reviewed meeting notes from club October 1st meeting. The club would like to recommend to the club for its consideration the following:  put aside in the budget an item for for membership recognition/growth, and retention; have a member of the satellite club to be on the nominating committee; and consider starting the 50/50 drawing again with the proceeds going directly to the Kiwanis Eliminate Project. These items will be discussed at the next board meeting. (

Crock pot Tuesday – Restore – October 15th. Harold will send an email to remind everyone what we are going to bring. Sheet was passed.
-The club’s annual spaghetti dinner is set for the Friday October 18th. The time of the dinner will be 5:00-7:00 pm.
-The club’s annual Halloween Parade will be held on Monday October 28th. Registration will start at 5:30 in the Ada Municipal Building parking lot. Last time (2 years ago), we had over 130 people (mostly children) participate. Other events are also scheduled along with this including a soup cook off and a scavenger hunt.
-The club will provide food for the November 11th Blood drive at the Community Health Professionals Building.
-Kiwanis Education Minute: A “service project” is defined by Kiwanis International as “an activity, consistent with the Kiwanis Club or a club committee and performed by members of the club for the benefit of others.”
Something to Ponder: Why are there flotation devices under plane seats instead of parachutes?
