Crestview offense amasses 423 yards in win over Ada

By Dusty Donley

The vaunted Crestview offense amassed 423 yards on the ground and rode a 29 point second quarter to a 63-12 thrashing of the visiting Bulldogs on Oct. 11. The loss drops Ada to 5-2 overall and 4-1 in the Northwest Conference.

The Knights began their offensive show early in the first quarter when quarterback Preston Zaleski found Nate Owens for an 11 yard touchdown. The extra point gave Crestview a 7-0 lead with just over seven minutes to play in the first quarter.

After a Bulldog three and out, a nice Isaiah Simerman punt return set up a Justin Overmyer four yard touchdown plunge. The extra point put the Knights up 14-0 with just under three minutes left in the first.

With the game beginning to slip away, the Bulldogs responded on their next drive when senior quarterback Matthew Wilcox found senior Spencer Archer on a pretty 26 yard touchdown toss. The extra point was blocked, leaving the game 14-6 at the end of the first quarter.

And that's when the Crestview offense turned out the lights and put the baby to bed.

The Knights began their second quarter offensive explosion early when running back Malcolm Oliver broke loose for a 34 yard touchdown rumble after just over a minute of play. Crestview went for two with success, giving them a 22-6 lead.

As the Bulldog offense stalled, the Crestview running game was starting to find its groove. After a quick Ada punt, it took the Knights only four plays to once again find pay dirt as running back Jake Lippi slipped into the end zone on a two yard scamper. The extra point gave Crestview a 29-6 lead.

After another Ada punt, the Knights broke off their biggest run of the game, an 81 yard Justin Overmyer touchdown jaunt. The extra point gave Crestview a comfortable lead at 36-6 with just over three minutes left in the half.

Crestview finished their 29 point quarter less than a minute later when Zaleski found Oliver for a 27 yard touchdown lob. The extra point point upped the score to 43-6 at the end of the half.

The Bulldog offense left the locker room with a new life, driving down the field with ease, ending with a beautiful 16 yard Wilcox to Archer touchdown toss. The extra point was no good, leaving the score 43-12 with just over nine minutes to play in the quarter.

Crestview would respond just over three minutes later as Lippi found the end zone for a second time on a 46 yard touchdown run. The extra point put Crestview ahead 50-12.

The Knights would go on to score two more touchdowns on the ground, giving them a total of seven on the game and a 63-12 Northwest Conference victory.

Crestview racked up 568 yards of total offense to Ada's 245.

Matthew Wilcox finished 20 of 36 for 196 yards, 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.

Spencer Archer led the way with 5 receptions for 64 yards and two touchdowns.

Ada hosts rival Allen East this Friday night in a Northwest Conference showdown. Game time is 7:30.
