ONU English Department welcomes poet Jonterri Gadson
The Ohio Northern University Department of English completes its 2013 Fall Readers series with poet Jonterri Gadson in the Elzay Gallery of Art on Thursday, Nov. 14, at 7:30 p.m.
Along with ONU students Jessica Cogar, a junior creative writing major from Madison, Ohio, and Lucas Campbell, a junior creative writing major from Hilliard, Ohio, Gadson will read poetry at the event, which will be preceded by a reception at 7 p.m.
The event is free and open to the public.
Gadson is a recent graduate of the University of Virginia’s Creative Writing master of fine arts program and the Callaloo Creative Writing Workshop. Her poetry has appeared in “The Rumpus,” “Tidal Basin Review,” “Muzzle” and other journals. She recently served as a visiting assistant professor at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, before being selected as the Herbert W. Martin post-graduate fellow in creative writing at the University of Dayton.
Poet Denise Duhamel describes Gadson’s latest work, “Pepper Girl,” as capacious and generous poems that hold bodies full of candid desire and blood, the blood of passion, family and violence. Gadson’s lines brim with spunk and grit, humor and heartbreak. Her imagination is acrobatic in dazzle and prayerful in its grace.
