ONU senior Amy Bullimore (Morrow/Little Miami) and junior Jenna Dirksen(Beavercreek/Carroll) led the charge offensively as the No. 10-ranked Ohio Northern women's basketball team defeated Baldwin Wallace 61-55 on Wednesday evening at the ONU Sports Center.
With their 13th consecutive victory, the Polar Bears move to 13-1 overall and remain a perfect 7-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference play, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 8-6, 4-3.
Bullimore led the way with her sixth consecutive double-double, scoring a game-best 22 points and grabbing a game-high 13 rebounds.
ADA — The Ohio Northern men's cross country team continued to show its strength during the 2017 campaign as it claimed the Ohio Athletic Conference title for the third consecutive season under ninth-year head coach Jason Maus.
The Polar Bears (126-37 overall) posted their second consecutive top-20 finish at the 2017 National Championships in Elsah, Ill. behind junior Ian McVey's (Stow/Munroe Falls) All-American performance.
The Ohio Northern volleyball team is set to open its 2018 campaign with the 40th Annual ONU Invitational on Aug. 31-Sept. 1 at the ONU Sports Center under 28th-year head coach Kate Witte.
The Polar Bears will also play in-season tournaments at Bluffton, Wittenberg and Calvin (Mich.)
The schedule also features non-conference home contests with Denison and Bluffton and a road match at Kenyon.
Northern will begin the quest for its third consecutive Ohio Athletic Conference Regular Season title with a match at John Carroll on Sept. 25.
Apollo Career Center Adult Education will offer a one night a week self- defense class for women this winter. The class will be held every Tuesday night from 6-9 p.m., beginning Tuesday, Jan. 16, and ending Feb. 13, and will be instructed of Sean Neidemire, detective, Lima Police Department
During this class, women will learn basic self-defense skills and techniques they can employ in an attack. Students will have improved awareness to avoid dangerous situations as well as the knowledge and skills to defend themselves against an attacker in various situations by the end of the class.
Ohio Northern University professor of history Michael B. Loughlin, Ph.D., published an article in the December 2017 edition of “Historical Reflection/Reflections Historiques.”
The article, “From Insurrectional Socialism to French National Socialism: Gustave Hervé and the Great War,” situates Hervé’s political evolution within the context of World War I and was published 100 years after the United States’ entry into the war.
