Ada freshman, Melina Woods, on area volleyball national championship team
Melina Woods, a freshman at Ada, and Shelby Alloway, a freshman at Hardin Northern, are on the Blackswamp 14-National Volleyball that recently won a national title.
The team from Tiffin placed first in the country at the 2014 USA Volleyball Girls’ Junior National Championships held at the Minneapolis Convention Center in Minnesota.
Woods and Alloway, along with their eight teammates, won an American bid at a USAV tournament in April, which allowed them to compete in the USAV Junior Championships in June.
During the tournament, Blackswamp made it to the finals with an 8-2 record, beating teams from Minnesota, Missouri, Iowa, Florida and Southern California, and finishing first out of 48 teams competing in the American division.
In the championship match, Blackswamp 14-National beat Springfield 14-Blue from Missouri (25-20, 25-12).
Melina is the daughter of Dexter and Melanie Woods of Ada, and Shelby is the daughter of Matthew and Jennifer Alloway of Dunkirk.
