Jefferson holds Bulldogs scoreless in homecoming game
By Dusty Donley
The Ada Bulldog offense was held scoreless for the second time this season as the visiting Delphos Jefferson Wildcats traveled to War Memorial Stadium and got a hard fought, 10-0 Northwest Conference victory. The loss drops Ada to (5-4) overall and (4-3) in the conference, ending any shot the Bulldogs had at a
piece of the NWC Championship.
Both offenses failed to find the end zone in the first half as Wildcat kicker Kurt Wollenhaupt's 31-yard field goal late in the second quarter were the only points either team could muster before the halftime intermission.
Jefferson took the second half kick and on the first play from scrimmage, Wildcat bruiser Hunter Binkley took the hand off and rumbled 80-yards for the score. Wollenhaupt's extra point was good, giving DJ a 10-0 lead, 13 seconds into the third quarter.
Solid defense the rest of the way preserved the Jefferson shutout, propelling the Wildcats into a week 10 slug fest with Spencerville for the NWC crown.
Despite being shut out, the Bulldogs managed to out gain DJ, 319 yards to 277 and held the ball for almost twice as long, 31:25 to 16:35.
Freshman quarterback Seth Conley went 52 of 73 for 352 yards and a pick.
Sophomore Trent Jolliff led the receivers with 11 grabs for 103 yards.
The Bulldogs end the season this Friday night with a match-up against former league rival Lima Central Catholic. With a win, the 'Dogs still have an outside shot at making the playoffs for a ninth straight season.
