The Village of Ada is required by the federal Clean Water Act to obtain a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit because our wastewater treatment plant discharges treatment plant effluent into Grass Run Creek.

The wastewater is treated through the Village’s wastewater treatment plant before it is discharged into the creek and the treatment is overseen by licensed operators and subject to Ohio EPA inspections and codes.

Why do I need to know about the Sanitary Sewer Overflow Annual Report?
The Village maintains compliance with the NPDES permit in several ways. One form of compliance is by completing the annual report and making it available to the public when required. The required 2014 Report is now available via the Village website under the “Notices” tab, as well as in the Village office. The public is welcome to review the report and contact the Village office with any questions.

In 2014, the Village did experience 5 overflow events at the same location at the wastewater treatment plant, as reported. The Village has continued to seek solutions for the overflow events, including using the data to accurately engineer the wastewater treatment plant which is now being constructed. When completed in 2016, the new wastewater treatment plant will have a greater capacity for excessive storm and sewer water events.
