Betty Watkins operated Watkins Florist in Alger
Betty M. Watkins, 72, died Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at 6:11 p.m. at Lima Memorial Health System.
She was born January 28, 1943 in Lima, Ohio to Theodore and Hazel (Marshall) Newland and they preceded her in death. She married Leroy C. Watkins on April 11, 1959 and he survives in Alger.
Betty retired from Triplett Corp of Bluffton after 42 years as an assembler. She formerly operated Watkins Florist in Alger for nine years. She was a member of the Eagles Lodge #3615 of Indian Lake and a former member of the Ada VFW Post #9381 Ladies Auxiliary. Betty loved gardening and spending time with her family and grandchildren. She enjoyed helping others. Betty liked to go to the casinos and to go fishing with her husband in Michigan.
Also surviving are two daughters: Kim (Harold Garrett) Nagy of Canal Fulton and Vicky (Jim) Mullins of Alger; four grandchildren: Chasity Leonard, Terra Diepenbrock, Paige Mullins and Breann Mullins; four great grandchildren; four sisters: Joyce (Harold) Fry of Ada, Barb (Charlie) Castle of Ada, Janet (David) Taflinger of Lima and Patty Lawrence of Arizona.
Betty was preceded in death by three brothers: Donald, Eugene and Dennis Newland; two sisters: Marilyn Corley and Brenda Benschoff.
Family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, April 19 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger. It was her request to be cremated and have no funeral service.
Memorial contributions may be made to Diabetes Association.
