Marion Lee “Buzz” Lawrence, age 83, died Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at 1:33 a.m. at St. Rita’s Medical Center.

He was born March 28, 1932 in Hardin County, Ohio to Oliver Clay and Idorah Norma Jean (Johnson) Lawrence. He was preceded in death by his father, mother and step father, Forest Eugene Donnal. On September 15, 1954 he married Madonna Jean Dirmeyer and she survives in Alger.

Marion worked for Sreco Rodding Equipment of Lima for 39 ½ years as a machinist. He formerly worked at Rex’s Seat Covers and he also worked at Art Kraft Company of Lima. He attended Sunday school as a child at the Alger Assembly of God Church. He was a U. S. Army veteran who served during the Korean War. He was a former commander and life member of the Roundhead VFW Post #8832, he later transferred to the Ada VFW Post #9381. He served as a Boy Scout leader, was the former mayor of Alger and a former Marshall of Harrod from 1958-1959.

Also surviving are three sons: Brian Lawrence of Dola, Anthony (Tina) Lawrence of Bluffton and Aaron (Christine) Lawrence of Dunkirk; a daughter, Cheryl Spencer; six grandchildren: Chad (Jennifer) Spencer, Derek (Shasta) Spencer, Ashley Lawrence, Jacob (Krysteena) Lawrence, Brittany Lawrence and Daric Lawrence; a step grandson, Daniel (Erin) Szippl; seven great grandchildren: Bryce Lawrence, Steven Spencer, Shane Spencer, Seth Spencer, Hayden Spencer, Marrisa Spencer and Chase Lawrence; one step great granddaughter, Madaeline Szippl.

He was preceded in death by three brothers: Albert, Delmar and Kenneth Lawrence; and three sisters: Loretta Donnal, Clara Belle Johnson and Mary Jane Cheney.

Funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 18 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger with Rev. Calvin Waugh officiating. Burial will be in Preston Cemetery, Alger with graveside military rites conducted by the Ada VFW Post #9381 Honor Guard.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 17 at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger and until time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.
