Nelsey Herbert: 1926-2015
Nelsy Herbert died April 29, 2015. She was born Jan. 9, 1926, in Clarksburg, W.V. She was the only child of Delbert and Virginia Hovey, both deceased. She graduated from Clarksburg High School and attended Moore University of Art in Philadelphia, until she met and married Vernon D. Herbert, Jr.
They married on May 25, 1946, after Vernon completed a tour with the Army. Nelsy was a homemaker and mother.
Surviving are three children: Vernon D. Herbert III, Norfolk, Va., (son Ram), Virginia A. O'Connell (William), Ada, and Carl D. Herbert (Fran), Colorado Springs, Colo.
She had five grandchildren: Ram Herbert, San Francisco, William Hyatt O'Connell (Jenni), Eugene, Ore., Patrick H. O'Connell (Sara), Kettering, Katheryn N. O'Connell (Anthony), Akron, and Brian Herbert, Colorado Springs.
For the last 13 years Nelsy lived in Bluffton, first at Maple Crest and for the last year as a resident of the Mennonite Memorial Home.
A funeral service and burial is planned at a later date in West Virginia. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
