Students honored with Dankook Awards
Ohio Northern University presented Dankook Awards to Nathan Rosenbaum, a senior mechanical engineering major from Orville, Ohio, and Molly Wascher, a sixth-year pharmacy major from West Bloomfield, Mich., at ONU’s Honors Day on April 5.
Presented since 1974, the Dankook Award is an annual reciprocal award exchanged between Dankook University in South Korea and Ohio Northern University. The award recognizes students with outstanding records in academics, student leadership, co-curricular activities and service.
The selection process begins when each ONU undergraduate dean nominates two students to receive the award. Next, ONU’s vice president of academic affairs selects two students from this pool of eight and sends their names to the University president for approval. Finally, the two names are sent to Dankook University.
Rosenbaum was recognized for his outstanding academic career at ONU. While balancing his athletic career in track and field and cross country, he has maintained a GPA of 4.0. Rosenbaum received the 2013 NCAA Elite 89 Academic Award, which recognized the male student-athlete with the highest GPA among competitors at the NCAA Division III Men’s Cross Country Championships. Rosenbaum has served as treasurer of the Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honor society, and is a member of the Phi Eta Sigma and Alpha Lambda Delta honor societies. He also served as an ONU Student Senate hall councilman. Rosenbaum has completed two summer internship opportunities at LuK USA in Wooster, Ohio.
Wascher, who holds an impressive 3.81 GPA, has maintained an active student and community service life. Wascher has been the primary coordinator of a professional continuing educating program for pharmacists for the last two years. She is a member of Kappa Alpha Theta, Freed Dance Center Company, ONU Northern Stars Dance Team, Student Society of Health Pharmacy (SSHP), American Society of Consultant Pharmacists, Northern Without Borders, Bear Ambassador and Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity. She has served as president of Kappa Alpha Theta as well as the founder of a new subcommittee on pediatrics with the SSHP. She has been inducted in to Rho Chi, Alpha Lambda Delta, Order of Omega, and Mortar Board.
She has been named the Rho Chi Outstanding Member of the Year, the SSHOP Member of the Year, and the Greek Women of the Year. She has received the Charles Oren Lee Award in Humanities and Ethics, the Periclian Award, the Betty Locke Award, the Living Your Values Award, the DeBow Freed Award for Outstanding Leadership, the Jessica Few Award, and the William C. Ford Jr. scholarship.
