The Ohio Northern women's lacrosse team opened its 2017 season with a solid 10-4 victory over Franciscan Saturday afternoon at Dial-Roberson Stadium.

The Polar Bears (1-0 overall) got four goals from freshman Betsy Naugle (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) and three goals each from sophomore Maddie Storr(Clarence, N.Y.) and freshman Elizabeth Carter (Lebanon).

Three Ohio Northern wrestlers placed sixth in their respective weight classes at the two-day NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Wrestling Championships on Saturday in Ft. Wayne.

Sophomore Gavin Nelson (Oregon/Clay) and freshmen Seth Transue (Plain City/Dublin) and Nate Barcaskey (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) placed 6th in the 157, 125 and 285 weight classes, respectively.

The Polar Bears finished 11th of 16 teams with 31.5 points in the team standings

ADA -- Sophomore Max Weese(Columbus/Hilliard Darby) picked up his sixth career hat trick with four goals to lead the Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team to a 12-4 victory over Calvin (Mich.) on a cold and windy afternoon in its 2017 home opener at Dial-Roberson Stadium.

The Polar Bears improve to 1-1 on the season, while the Knights fall to 0-1.

Ohio Northern will return to action March 5 with a 1 pm contest at Hampden-Sydney (Va.)

The NCAA Division III Women's basketball Tournament field will be announced live on Monday at 2:30 pm.

The No. 5-ranked Polar Bears are 27-0 on the season and earned the Ohio Athletic Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament by winning the OAC Tournament on Saturday

LIMA - Ada junior Chase Sumner captured the 138 lb. title while the Bulldog wrestling team finished 11th and qualified three wrestlers to the Troy district out of the 14-team Div. III sectionals at Lima Central Catholic last Friday and Saturday.

 

Ottawa-Glandorf won the team competition with 178 points to edge Coldwater (167.5) by 10.5 points. Allen East came in third (135.5) while Ada ended up with 53 points.

 

Sumner (33-2 this season) went 4-0 in the sectional meet and was a convincing champion with three quick pin wins. He advances to the Troy districts with his win as one of four top seeds.
