Betty J. Reed, 89, died on Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2016, at 6:26 a.m. at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima.
She was born on Aug. 14, 1927, in Kinniconick, Ky., to Ernest and Dorothy (Pell) Rhoden who preceded her in death. Betty married Elvin Reed and he preceded her in death in 1986.
Betty formerly worked for Triplett Corp. of Bluffton, Westinghouse of Lima and prior to her retirement she worked at the Marysville Correctional Facility. Betty was a homemaker. She was a USO volunteer and a member of the Kenton Moose Lodge #428 Ladies Auxiliary.
Amy Eddings, reporter for The Lima News and SALT, formerly of NPR, is the speaker at the Lima Rotary Club on Monday, Oct. 31.
The Lima Rotary Club meets at noon in the North Hall of the Veterans Memorial Civic & Convention Center. The speaker usually begins around 12:30 p.m.
Eddings and her husband are winners of the 2016 Bluffton Center for Entrepreneurs business plan competition. They own Easter House Bed and Breakfast, Ada.

About 1,000 alumni, students, and employees were served lunch at the Sports Center.

LuLaRoe will have a fundraiser for the nine service dogs, which are in training at Ohio Northern this semester.
Several consultants will be on hand to sell LuLaRoe clothing. A portion of the profits will go to Polar Paws.
In addition, Polar Paws will have some merchandise available for sale, such as bandanas for dogs.
The event will take place between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29, at Community Health Professionals, 1200 S. Main.
LuLaRoe sells dresses, skirts, tops and the very popular leggings. Children and adult sizes will be available from several consultants. Admission is free.
Alice Cheney, a member of the Ada VFW Post 9381 Auxiliary, sells poppies at Country Market in Ada on Friday.
She sells poppies every year to assist veterans because her late husband, Dallas, saw a lot of combat in the European Theater during World War II. In addition, she had two brothers who served in that war.
The red poppy is a symbol of remembrance. Donations on Poppy Day remain local to help veterans and their families. (Monty Siekerman photo)
