Scott and Arlene: Retiring as Harvest and Herb Fest directors

By Monty Siekerman

Scott and Arlene Allison have headed up the successful Harvest & Herb Fest for five years, but this year is their last.

With three children involved in many sports and school activities, the Allisons thought it was time to turn over the reins to someone else.

Persons interested in heading up the Fest may contact Deb Curlis, president of the Ada Area Chamber of Commerce, at 419-634-9459.

The Allison's successful run continues this year with over 150 food and craft booths and entertainment featuring some gifted local musicians.

Entertainment includes:
• Common Thread featuring Ada alum Kevin Plaugher at 12:15 p.m.
• Mike Wright and Jim Boedicker at 1:15 p.m.
• The Crew barbershop quartet featuring Ada alum Jared Wolf at 2:15 p.m.  • Kwik Fire with Ada's own Les Thede at 3:15 p.m.

Scott, with Hanson-Neely funeral home, and Arlene, a local teacher, hope the unbelievable string of good weather holds for this year's event. Up to this, the 30th year, it has never rained for the street fair.

Why did the Allisons take on such a big volunteer job for the community? Simple, it's been good for the community and, five years ago, they decided to help so that the Fest would continue...and it has, bigger and better every year with throngs of people filling Main Street each mid-September.

In addition to the booths and entertainment, the Fest will feature a 10 a.m. parade, crowning of a queen at noon, and a golf cart decorating contest.
