University observes Constitution Day with presentation on ‘The President and the Constitution’
Ohio Northern University will observe Constitution Day with a panel discussion on “The President and the Constitution” in the Pettit College of Law’s Celebrezze Moot Courtroom on Thursday, Sept. 17, at 4:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Scott Gerber, ONU professor of law, will serve as moderator of the three-person panel presentation. Each speaker will tackle issues concerning the executive office and the U.S. Constitution.
Dr. William Angel, associate professor emeritus from the Ohio State University-Lima Department of Political Science, will speak on “Emergency Powers and the Presidency – Times of War/Times of Peace.”
Dr. David McClough, ONU associate professor of economics, will present “In Service to Whom? Bureaucrat Self-Interest and the President.”
Finally, Dr. Robert Waters. ONU assistant professor of history, will discuss “Imperial Presidents? Barack Obama as a Test Case.”
The presentation is held in accordance with a federal mandate passed in 2004, which stipulates that every school and college that receives federal money must teach about the Constitution on or near the date of Sept. 17, the day the document was adopted in 1787.
