The University of Findlay’s Mazza Museum will dedicate the Catherine Freed Galleria at 3 p.m. on Oct. 14 in the museum. The event will be open to the public. Those who are planning to attend are asked to call the museum in advance at (419) 434-4560.

The galleria will be an existing wall near the entrance that features a variety of artwork and corresponding books. The work displayed changes approximately every month to correspond with museum events, conferences and holidays, and to showcase newly acquired pieces.

“Catherine Freed has been a strong supporter of the Mazza Museum and its outstanding collection of original art from children’s books since her husband became president of The University of Findlay in 2003,” said museum Director Ben Sapp.

“She regularly attended events at the museum, supported their collection, had paintings from the museum displayed in the president’s home, and was fully supportive of the museum’s collection and its direction. She supported all of the arts, including the concert and lecture series and regular presentations and performances of the departments of art, music and theater.”

Catherine Freed holds bachelor of arts and bachelor of fine arts degrees from the University of Texas, a master of arts from the University of Kansas, and a doctor of fine arts (honorary) from Ohio Northern University. She was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Mortar Board. She taught at the universities of Kansas and New Mexico, and at colleges near other locations where she lived.

The Mazza Museum has the most diverse collection of original artwork by children’s book artists in the world. Its goal is to promote literacy and enrich the lives of all people through the art of children’s literature.
