Justin Magazine 10th ONU player to run for 1,000 yards in 1 season
Senior Justin Magazinebecame the 10th player in Ohio Northern history to rush for 1,000 yards in a season as ONU posted a 55-21 victory at Wilmington Saturday afternoon at Williams Stadium.
The Polar Bears improve to 7-2 overall and 6-2 in Ohio Athletic Conference play, while the Quakers fall to 1-8, 0-8.
With the victory, ONU clinched its 19th upper division finish in the 10-team OAC in the last 20 seasons.
Magazine rushed 19 times for 137 yards and four touchdowns and caught two passes for 45 yards and a TD to finish the day with 192 all-purpose yards and five touchdowns.
Magazine entered the game with 980 yards and now has 1,117 on the season. Ten different players have now accomplished the feat a total of 14 times in ONU history.
He is the first player since Brent Donley's 1,515-yard season in 2010 to reach the 1,000-yard plateau.
Sophomore Ricardo Johnson completed 15-of-24 passes for a career-high 301 yards and three TDs and ran eight times for 64 yards and another score and senior Devon Price caught six passes for 128 yards and a score to lead the ONU offense.
Northern scored three times in the first quarter to take a 20-0 lead.
Magazine plowed in from 1 yard out just 2:13 into the game and ONU led 6-0.
He scored on a 3-yard run to make ot 13-0 with 6:47 left in the first period.
Johnson then ran in from 7 yards out with 2:32 left in the first stanza and it was 20-0 Polar Bears.
Magazine scored on a 20-yard screen pass from Johnson with 19 seconds left before intermission and ONU led 27-0 at halftime.
Magazine plowed over from four yards out with 11:03 left in the third quarter to make it 34-0.
Johnson hit Price on a 58-yard TD pass on ONU's next play from scrimmage and it was 41-0 with 8:43 left in the third.
Johnson then hit senior Justin McCray on a 43-yard TD pass and Northern led 48-7 with 5:34 left in the third.
Magazine scored from 19 yards out early in the fourth quarter to extend ONU's lead to 55-7.
Ohio Northern had 524 yards of total offense, while holding the Quakers to 365 yards of total offense.
Senior Will Bodden had two interceptions to lead the ONU defense.
The Polar Bears will wrap up their regular season next Saturday with a 1:30 pm contest at home against Otterbein on Senior Day at Dial-Roberson Stadium.
