Ada Icon owner stepping down as director of Bluffton chamber

After eight years as director of the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce, Fred Steiner, owner of the Ada Icon, is stepping down and that position is now open, according to Phil Zimmerly, Bluffton chamber board president.

Steiner said that while he enjoys his involvement with the chamber, the Ada and Bluffton Icons, two online websites he owns, continued to grow and take more of his time.

The Bluffton chamber launched several new programs in the past eight years. It spearheaded a new Christmas downtown garland project now used by 45 businesses.

Also, a free monthly breakfast program launched bringing attendance to an average of 65 persons, a Bluffton visitors’ guide was created and the chamber took over operation of the Bluffton Farmers’ Market.

The chamber continues to hold a May arts and crafts show, a November Blaze of Lights and two years ago started an annual summer fireworks evening.

A downtown map project is being unveiled this month and several other programs are in development stages. The chamber’s budget and membership have nearly doubled in the past eight years.

A board search committee has formed and is accepting inquiries from persons interested in the position. Persons may contact Zimmerly at Common Grounds, Bluffton, or email [email protected].
