Ada area residents Joshua Dye and Donnie Deckling will soon be heading to New Brunswick, Canada to take on the fourth annual 1,000 Mile Challenge, a March 3-9 snowmobile endurance event that helps send kids to summer camp.
Styling themselves as “Team Allison,” they share their purpose on the challenge website where readers can support their effort. Dye: “I’ve always wanted to do it. My wife has cancer and she said I have no choice, I have to go! I want to raise money for kids to go to camp and we’re doing it for my wife, Allison.” Deckling: “Because it’s a challenge.… And Joshua Dye is making me go!”
HARROD - Two Allen East girl hoop standouts were voted second team All-District 8 in basketball for the 2023-24 season by the D8 Coaches Association recently.
Northwest Ohio – Wildlife District Two
In the spring of 2023, State Wildlife Officer Ryan Burke, assigned to Hancock County, received a complaint of an individual shooting and killing two turkey vultures.
Officer Burke located the suspect, who was found to have killed the vultures with a rifle from inside a vehicle. The individual pleaded guilty in Findlay Municipal Court and was ordered to pay $800 in fines and court costs, serve one year on probation, and complete community service. The rifle was forfeited to the Ohio Division of Wildlife.
The Hardin County Pork Producers will hold their annual Pork Banquet at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 16 at the Upper Scioto Valley School auditorium in McGuffey.

ADA__The Ada High School girls basketball team played two nearly identical battles with Waynesfield-Goshen this season and both ended up in three-point defeats where a last-second three-point try came up just short.
In the do-or-die tournament rematch at Ada Wednesday, February 21, visiting W-G dodged a furious Bulldog rally and hung on for a thrilling 53-50 win in an intense Div. IV sectional semifinal battle.
