ONU's Early Childhood Development Center recently hosted its annual Trike-A-Thon, held in collaboration with university honor students. The event raises money for St. Jude's Children’s Research Hospital, while also teaching children about bike/trike safety. Currently the children have raised approximately $700. Polar Bear Swim School at Ohio Northern University is now accepting registration for Spring 2024. Lessons are available for swimmers from the ages of 4-12. Classes take place at King Horn Natatorium, ONU Sports Center, 609 W Lincoln Ave. 

The ONU Swimming and Diving Team will be teaching children to swim by working on water familiarity, water skills and safety, stroke development and technique work. In order to register, please use the following link:

A Parent and Polar Cub Swim School is also being introduced. This is a unique opportunity for parents and children to work together in the water to learn some swimming and water safety basics in a fun and relaxed environment.

Harrod and Lafayette projects

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 1, in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and Executive Order 11988, is seeking public comments regarding the following proposed projects in Allen County.

The Hardin County Sheriff's office has made the following announcement:

A single vehicle crash early Sunday afternoon has claimed the life of an Arlington man. 

Hardin County Central Dispatch received a 9-1-1 call at 12:14 p.m. reporting a crash of a vehicle into a tree at 18689 TR 22, Forest. 

Deputies discovered a pickup truck driven by 18-year-old Chase Clark had been traveling west on Twp Rd. 22, when it left the south side of the roadway and crashed into a tree. Mr. Clark was pronounced deceased at the scene. 

Deputies were assisted by the Jackson Forest Fire Department and Jackson Forest EMS, the Hardin County Coroner's Office, Forest Police Department, and Osborn Towing and Recovery Services.

Hayden Samuel Lee Glasco, age 16, of LaFayette, passed away on September 29, 2023.  

Hayden was born on September 14, 2007, in Bluffton, Ohio to Timothy E. Glasco, Jr. and Kayla J. Wood.  His mother, Kayla survives in LaFayette and his father and stepmother: Timothy and Michelle survive in Kenton.
