Cleo Williams operated Cleo's Beauty Shop for 35 years in Alger
Cleo Ellen Williams, 95, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 11, 2016, having been blessed with a long life and a large family.
She was born on April 13, 1921, in Dola, Ohio, the oldest of eight children to Emmitt and Floellen (Williams) DeLong who preceded her in death.
All but one of her siblings deceased before her: Marion DeLong and his wife, Marion; Jessie DeLong; Cassie DeLong Bicknell and husband, Arthur, Sr.; Esther DeLong Gilroy and husband, Robert; Hilda DeLong Reffitt and husband, Henry.
The youngest of her siblings also preceded her in death, Earl DeLong who is survived by wife, Pat. Her only surviving sibling is Rev. Herbert DeLong and his wife, Marlene.
Mrs. John Williams was married to LaRue G. Patton who died in service to our country and to Phillip “Duke” Newland the loving father to four of her seven children and preceded her in death. She is also survived by her husband, John Williams, former Postmaster for the Village of Alger. They were married Jan. 31, 1981.
All of her children survive including Larry L. Patton and his wife, Karen; Nancy Ellen (Patton) Price who survives her husband, Ronald; Lavada Sue (Patton) Anderson who survives her husband, Ernest; Phillip A. Newland and his wife Donna; Russell E. Newland and his wife, Carol; LaVerne L. Newland and his wife Kandy; and Dana D. (Newland) Allen and her husband Jerry. Cleo had 20 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren and 19 great great grandchildren.
Three of her grandchildren preceded her in death: Darren Price, Kevin Price, children of Ronald and Nancy Price and Kerry Newland, son of LaVerne and Nancy Newland.
Cleo was the owner and operator of Cleo’s Beauty Shop in Alger for 35 years. She was the oldest member of the Alger Assembly of God Church.
Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 15, at the Alger Assembly of God Church, 7050 State Route 235, Alger, with Pastor Mark Andreasen officiating. Burial will be in Preston Cemetery, Alger.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger and from noon-1 p.m. prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
