Sarah Hicks, 1933 - 2016
Sarah Ellen Hicks, 83, after two weeks being injured, she graduated into the heavenlies on Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at 12:54 p.m. with family and friends at her side.
She was born on March 26, 1933 in Floyd County, Kentucky near Wayland, Kentuky (Millcreek) to Clayton and Ella (Parker) Keen, who preceded her in death. On June 25, 1949, in Mousie, Kentucky, she married Rev. Lewis Hicks and they were married for 66 years. He survives in McGuffey.
Sarah was a homemaker. She attended the Quickstep Pentecostal Church of God in Alger, where she celebrated her love of Jesus Christ and the Bible. She was baptized on August 6, 1962, in the Scioto River by Elgin Gibson. She loved church, quilting, gardening and her grandchildren, and especially her husband Lewis. They were always together even when getting firewood in the woods. She will be greatly missed by all.
Also surviving is a son, Elmer L. Hicks of Ada; a daughter-in-law, Paula (Gary) Steinke of Wapakoneta; two grandchildren: Scott Ellis (Melanie) Hicks of Wapakoneta and Jessica Sue (Steven) Gossard of Wapakoneta; six great grandchildren: Bradley S. Hicks, Caleb M. Hicks, Jacob N. Hicks, Hope R. Gossard, Faith M. Gossard and Joy L. Gossard; a brother, G. Harold Keen of Dayton; and a sister, Stella (Billy) Greene of Wayland, Ky.
She was preceded in death by a son, Ellis Lee Hicks on March 18, 1980; three brothers: Junior Keen, Louis P. Keen and Ernest Keen.
Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 11, at Quickstep Pentecostal Church of God at 2040 Township Road 120, Alger, Ohio 45812 with Rev. Eugene Haney officiating. Burial will be in Preston Cemetery, Alger.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 10, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
