ONU volleyball team splits pair of 5-set matches

The Ohio Northern volleyball team split a pair of thrilling 5-set matches on the final day of the Franklin & Marshall Scramble on Saturday.
The Polar Bears (9-3 overall) began the morning with a 16-25, 26-28, 20-25, 25-23, 15-13 loss to No. 14-ranked Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) and finished the day in solid fashion with a 25-17, 23-25, 25-13, 23-25, 16-14 win over Stevenson (N.J.)
CMU improves to 10-2 and Stevenson falls to 9-6.
Freshman McKenna Jordan led Ohio Northern with a pair of double-doubles, registering career-highs of 17 kills and 24 digs against CMU and 10 kills and 11 digs against SU.
Against Stevenson, sophomore Haley Potters had 11 kills and senior Claire Heitkamp and freshman Sydney Fecko had 10 kills each.
Sophomore Megan Nieszala had a team-high 20 digs and senior Ashley Borchers had a team-best 38 assists.
Against CMU, Borchers had a triple-double with 11 kills, 42 assists and 22 digs.
Fecko added 11 kills and Heitkamp had 10 kills in the match.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Tuesday night with a 7 pm match at area-rival Bluffton.
