Volleyball: Ada wins NWC opener
Ada sweeps Panthers in NWC spike opener

ADA - The Ada volleyball team won its Northwest Conference opener Tuesday night over Paulding in a rematch of the 2015 league co-champions.
The 25-14, 25-18, 25-19 victory over the Panthers upped the Lady Bulldog record to 5-5 overall and 1-0 in league play. Paulding fell to 0-5 and 0-1 in the NWC with the defeat.
Junior Melina Woods led Ada with 23 kills, 14 digs, six blocks and one ace.
"Melina was just outstanding all-around," said Ada head coach Melissa Gossard. "Our serving was outstanding. We knew this was a big match and I am really proud of them."
Senior Alyssa Vore knocked down six kills while classmate Haley Wyss contributed three kills.
Junior Maddie Gossard passed out 21 assists and served seven aces. Junior Nikki Lehsten added two kills. Junior libero Olivia Alexander came up with 14 digs. Junior Kaiti Newland served three aces and made seven digs.
Freshman Sidney Gossard served four aces and passed out six assists.
"Everybody contributed, it was a good team effort," said the Ada coach. "Olivia passed well, Kaiti did a good job and Nikki had a key block in the third set. Haley and Alyssa did a good job of picking it up when Melina was in the back row."
Ada visits Crestview Thursday evening in another key early NWC match.
