Weather halts cross country race
By Cort Reynolds
SPENCERVILLE - Rain and lightning interrupted the Ada cross country team at the Spencerville Invitational Saturday morning.
The boys race, started in pouring rain, was cancelled about a third of the way into the 3.1-mile run by lightning. The boys had to sprint back to the finish line because lightning caused an early end to the race.
"They had fun running in the torrential rain; it made for an interesting meet," said first-year head coach Josh Klein.
The girls race was completed. Olivia Ennis finished first among the Ada girls with a time of 25:53 to end up 59th. Alexis Ennis was 80th in 27:29, followed by Nora Dellifield at 101st (30:32) and Dani Waugh in 111th place (32:46).
The Bulldogs ran shorthanded to begin with, as only seven of the team's 15 boys and girls runners were able to compete due to county fair activities and the ACT.
Ada runs at the Riverdale Invitational Thursday, September 15 at 4:30 p.m. The Bulldogs compete at the Galion Invite Sept. 17 at 9 a.m.
